ST. LOUIS, Mo. (BGSU Strategic Communications) – A total of four members of the Bowling Green State University men's soccer team have been voted to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Team, the league office announced on Tuesday morning (Nov. 18). Senior Andrew Shaffer, juniors Mads Christensen and Bennett Painter and sophomore Ryko Bodurov all have been chosen to the team.
Shaffer earns MVC Scholar-Athlete Team for the third consecutive season, in the Falcons' third season as a member of the conference.
Shaffer, a native of Galena, Ohio (St. Francis DeSales), played in 16 of BGSU's 17 matches on the year, starting all 17, and had a pair of assists. In his BGSU career, he saw action in 65 matches, starting 52, and had 31 points on eight goals and 15 assists. Shaffer, a finance major, has a 3.88 cumulative GPA at BGSU.
Christensen, who hails from Copenhagen, Denmark (Campus Vejli), saw action in 15 matches, starting them all. The midfielder has played in 51 matches in his first three seasons, making 44 starts in that time. A political science major at BGSU, Christensen maintains a 3.62 cumulative GPA.
Painter, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio (Anderson), was one of three Falcons to start all 17 matches in 2025, and finished second on the team in both goals, with five, and points, with 13. He had three assists to tie for the team lead in that category. Painter has 51 points in 50 career matches, with 21 goals and nine assists. He is tied for 14th in school history in career goals, and ranks 23rd on the career points list. In the classroom, Painter has a 3.58 GPA as an individualized business major.
Bodurov, from Columbus, Ohio (Olentangy Berlin), played in 15 matches in 2025, making seven starts. He tied for the team lead with three assists on the season. Bodurov has played in 31 contests over his first two seasons, making nine starts, and has 11 points on three goals and five assists. A finance major, he has a perfect 4.00 cumulative GPA.
