Zips Upend Falcons In Three Sets

Akron, Ohio – The Akron volleyball team hit .325 and defeated Bowling Green 25-20, 25-19, 25-21 in a key Mid-American Conference match Saturday night that was closer than the final scores indicated. The two teams entered the Halloween match as half of a four-way tie for ninth place in the league standings.
For the third consecutive weekend, Bowling Green won its opening MAC match but came up short on the back end of the two-game series. The Falcons swept Buffalo in three sets Friday evening.
Each of the first two sets were tied at 14-14 and the Falcons led 15-10 in the third set but the Zips closed out all three frames in strong fashion. Akron scored six of the final eight points in the first and third sets and seven of the final nine points in the second.
Emily Kauth led Bowling Green with 12 kills and Corey Domek and Noelle Spitler had nine each. Domek added 15 digs and Allison Kearny handed out 35 assists.
Akron improves to 12-14 with the win and 4-8 in MAC play. The Falcons are now 10-17 overall and 3-9 in conference heading into the final two weekends of play. Bowling Green plays at Miami (Ohio) Thursday at 7 p.m. and will host Northern Illinois Saturday at 3 p.m.
