Falcons Open 2009 in the Sunshine State

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Head coach Shannon Salsburg and the Bowling Green State University softball team will pack their bags and head south to the Sunshine State for their 2009 season opener. The Falcons will open the season at the UCF-Early Bird Tournament against North Florida on Friday (Feb. 13) at 1:00 p.m. followed by a night game against Bradley at 7:30 p.m. The Orange and Brown will take on South Carolina at 11:00 a.m. and Texas-Arlington at 3:30 p.m. on day two of the tournament (Feb. 14). Salsburg and the squad will finish up their opening weekend against Kansas on Sunday, (Feb. 15) at 1:00 p.m.

MATCH-UPS ON THE DIAMOND
North Florida • Ospreys (2/13 • 1:00 p.m.)
The Falcons will open the 2009 season against North Florida matching up for the first time in program history ... the Ospreys are currently 2-5, after splitting a double-header against UCF (Feb. 11) losing game one 1-2 and winning game two 7-5.
Bradley • Braves (2/13 • 7:30 p.m.)
The Orange and Brown are set to take on the Bradley Braves in their second game of the season ... the Braves are currently 3-1, after defeating IUPUI (5-2), Wright State (2-0), and Western Illinois (5-1) and falling to Iowa State (3-5) at the Country Inn and Suites Softball Invitational ... the Braves lead the Falcons 3-2 in the all-times series ... BG was scheduled to match-up against the Braves for last year's season opener at the Chattanooga Classic but due to weather the game was canceled ... the last time the Falcons faced off against the Braves was in 2005 at the Frost Classic in Chattanooga, Tennessee when the Falcons fell to the Braves 2-7.
South Carolina • Gamecocks (2/14 • 11:00 a.m.)
The Falcons will match-up against the South Carolina Gamecocks for the first time in 24 years ... the Gamecocks are currently 2-1, after defeating the College of Charleston 7-1 and 6-4 in two games of three game series, the Gamecocks fell 2-1 in the last game ... the Gamecocks lead the Falcons 2-0 in the all-time series ... the last match-up between BG and South Carolina was in 1985 where the Gamecocks defeated the Falcons 6-0.
Texas-Arlington • Mavericks (2/14 • 3:30 p.m.)
The Orange and Brown will finish day two of their opening weekend against the Texas-Arlington Mavericks for the first time in program history ... the Mavericks will also open their season at the UCF-Early Bird Tournament.
No. 25 Kansas • Jayhawks (2/15 • 11:00 a.m.)
Salsburg and company will wrap up their first weekend of play against the No. 25 Kansas Jayhawks for the first time in 20 years ... the Jayhawks are currently 2-2 after defeating No. 7/7 Arizona (5-1) and No. 9/11 Northwestern (8-7) and falling to UTEP (1-3) and No. 11/9 Stanford in their opening weekend at the Kajikawa Classic ... the Jayhawks lead the Falcons 2-0 in the all-time series ... the last meeting between the two teams was in 1989 in Tucson, Arizona where the Falcons fell 12-0 to the Jayhawks.
