BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green State University men's cross country head coach Cami Wells has announced that Jason Salyer has signed a National Letter of Intent to run for the men's cross country team, starting in the 2009-10.
"I am thrilled to have Jason joining the program," said Wells. "Jason is a tremendous young man, he is great student and gifted athlete. Jason is one of the top distance runners in the state and he has the ability to come in and make an immediate impact. Jason's character is what sets him a part, he is first and foremost a team player and he is dedicated to getting all he can out of every area of his life."
Salyer, a native of Tipp City, Ohio, finished third at the 2008 Division II Cross Country State Championship, helping his team finish second in the same meet. He is a four-time team MVP and was named the Central Buckeye Conference Athlete of the Year in 2007 and 2008. He also earned All-Ohio honors in cross country as a junior and senior. Salyer finished 13th at the 2007 Division II State Championship in his junior campaign.
Salyer is also an accomplished track athlete, finishing with personal-bests in the 1600 meters (4:29), 3200 meters (9:35) and 5000 meters (15:42). He finished sixth at state in the 3200 meters and ran a leg on the 4x800 meter relay team that finished 10th in the same meet.
Salyer, who was coached by Ron Rohrer, Dave Larsen (BGSU alum), Nick Culver and Steve Verhoff will graduate from Tippecanoe High School this May and plans to major in journalism. He is the son of Amy Kramer and Jim Salyer.
