BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University gymnastics team was able to find their groove as they bucked the Western Michigan Broncos, 192.975-191.600, recording a season high team score this evening (Feb. 13). The Falcons move to 2-4 overall and a 2-3 record in the Mid-American Conference. The Orange and Brown were led by junior Breanne Guy who recorded a career high and the third best all-around score in BG history with a 39.175, including three straight event wins and a second place finish.
The Falcons got started on the vault, which proved to be yet again on of the BG's strongest events as they took two of the top-three finishes for the second straight week. Guy led the vault line-up as she stuck a 9.800 and first place finish, her third vault win and sixth event win of the season. Right behind her was senior Jenna Wirtanen landing a season high 9.750 for a second place finish. Rounding out the top three finishers for the Falcons was Andrea Kinzer with a 9.650.
The Orange and Brown then moved on to the uneven bars, where they scored a season high 48.400 and took all three top finishes. Once again Guy led the BG line-up as she swung her way to a career high 9.825 and another first place finish, her second on bars of the season, second event win of the meet and seventh of the season. Teammates Kasey Fillmore and Amber Brewer kept up their strong performances on bars each recording a 9.725 and tying for a second place finish. Megan Chronister tied for sixth with a 9.600.
Next up for BG was the balance beam, where the Falcons turned in their second consecutive strong performance on as five out of the six gymnasts, posted a 9.600 or better. For the third straight event Guy took home the top honors as she earned a 9.775, recording her first event win on beam of the season, third event win of the night and eighth on the season. Rounding out the top finishers for the Orange and Brown were Fillmore with a 9.700 in fourth and Katie Follett with a season high 9.675 in fifth.
The Falcons finished the meet on the floor exercise where they recorded a season high 48.375 with a low score of 9.400 and five of the six gymnasts, posting a 9.575 or better. Although Guy led the Falcons once again with a season high 9.775 she wasn't able to sweep all of the individual events but tied for a second place finish. Freshman Molly McKinnon tumbled her way to a career high 9.725 and fourth place finish; while teammate Wirtanen tied her season high 9.770 for a fifth place finish.
After three first place finishes and one second place finish Guy racked up a career high 39.175 points in the all-around for a first place finish, her second of the season and the third best all-around score in program history.
The Falcons will return to action in their last home meet of the season as they host state rival Ohio State on Sunday, Feb. 22 at 2:00 p.m.
