Falcons Climb to Eighth at Palmas Del Mar

Day two of the Palmas Del Mar Intercollegiate is in the books with the Bowling Green State University men's golf team climbing to eighth-place after carding a 296 on day two of the event, 14 strokes better than the opening 18 holes.
Virginia Commonwealth leads the field after 36 holes with a score of 579. They are followed by UNC Greensboro (581) Notre Dame (583), Johnson & Wales (588) and St. John's (590). The Falcons, who are in eighth, have a 36-hole score of 606.
Helping the Orange and Brown to their 14 stroke improvement, was a team effort. Four of the five Falcons scored better on day two, led by junior John Powers. Powers carded a 1-under 71 on day two, six strokes better than his 77 on day one. Powers currently sits in a tie for 15th with a score of 148.
Drew Preston also improved by six shots, firing a 74 on day two. The freshman is currently tied for 38th with a score of 154 (80-74).
Fellow classmate Parker Hewit one upped Preston, improving by seven shots in round two. After opening with an 81 the freshman rebounded nicely, carding a 74. He currently sits in a tie for 41st.
Bryan Mitchell shot a 77 this afternoon, improving by three shots (80 on day one). He sits in a tie for 44th with a 36-hole score of 157.
The lone Falcon to not go lower on day two was day-one leader Matt Schneider. The junior sits in a tie for 23rd with a score of 150 (73-77).
Final round of action begins at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning.
