Falcons Finish Eighth at MAC Championships

The Bowling Green State University men's golf team shot a final round 301 to finish eighth at the Mid-American Conference Championships with a 72-hole score of 1,197 (299-305-292-301).The three day event took play at the Brickyard Crossing in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Kent State won the nine-team tournament with a score of 1,136. They were followed by Eastern Michigan (1,155), Toledo (1,167), Ohio (1,183), Northern Illinois (1,185), Ball State (1,187), Miami (1,190), BGSU (1,197) and Akron (1,203). The three day event took play at the Brickyard Crossing in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Top finisher for the Falcons was Matt Schneider, who finished in a tie for fifth. The junior, who opened with a 2-under 70 on Thursday was leading the tournament after 18 holes. After a 77 in round two Schneider rebounded nicely with a 5-under 67 on Friday and a 74 in the final round of action. Schneider shot a 72-hole score of 288 (even-par) to lead the Orange and Brown.
Drew Preston continued his strong show at his first career MAC Championships, carding a 73 on Saturday afternoon. The freshman finished in a tie for 25th with a score of 300 (73-75-79-73).
Fellow classmate Parker Hewit finished in a tie for 30th with a score of 301 (75-75-72-79). He finished the tournament at 13-over par.
Bryan Mitchell finished 41st in the field with a score of 309 (82-78-74-75), while John Powers shot 72 on Saturday, but signed an incorrect scorecard, disqualifying his score. The 72 would have been his lowest round of the three days.
This will conclude the Falcons' season. All five MAC competitors will return for the 2009-10 season.
