Former Falcon Gives Back to Men's Soccer Program

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - A former Bowling Green State University men's soccer standout is stepping up to help the program return to the lofty heights it once enjoyed. Nan Chul Shin has announced a gift of over $100,000, which will be given over a four-year period, to help take the Falcons to the next level.
The gift will help support a grant-in-aid for a Falcon men's soccer student-athlete, as well as providing new head coach Eric Nichols and the program with the resources they need to be competitive and successful.
"The longer I'm here at Bowling Green, the more apparent it is that we have a special group of alumni who cherish the experiences they had as soccer players at Bowling Green," said Nichols, who was hired in February.
"Nan was a very good player on some outstanding teams, and helped build the program into a powerhouse. This gift demonstrates Nan's continued commitment to the program and his desire for this program to return to prominence. Our staff and players will now put this gift to work to make Nan's goal a reality."
Shin earned four letters with the Falcons from 1983-86, leading the team in scoring as a senior. He had 16 points in that 1986 campaign, and was an All-Ohio First-Team selection. Shin also was named the Mid-America Soccer Conference's Player of the Year. He now resides in Honolulu, Hawai'i.
"Nan has expressed a strong interest in helping to take the program to the next level," said BGSU Assistant Vice President/Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Greg Christopher. "His gift and commitment will certainly lead us in the right direction as we work to win a MAC championship."
"With this gift, Nan has given us more tools in our arsenal to get the program back to the level that Nan and fellow alumni are used to," added Nichols. "His generosity will have a direct and significant impact on this program."
Nichols and new assistant coach Paul Habrecht return 21 student-athletes from the 2008 squad.
