Cameron Hepple Named MAC Player of the Week
September 21, 2009 | Men's Soccer
Bowling Green State University senior Cameron Hepple has been named the Mid-American Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday morning (Sept. 21). Hepple earns the honor for the first time in his Falcon career.
* MAC Statistics (through games of Sunday, Sept. 20)
Hepple, a native of Nassau, Bahamas (St. Andrew's), scored a total of seven points in the Falcons' two games last weekend. He was involved in the scoring of all four BGSU goals on the weekend. The Brown and Orange lost, 4-3, at Dayton Friday night (Sept. 18) before battling IPFW to a 1-1 tie at Cochrane Field on Sunday (Sept. 20).
At Dayton, Hepple scored all three Falcon goals, for the first hat trick by a Falcon player in nearly five years. It was the first multiple-goal game of Hepple's career. No BGSU player had recorded a hat trick since Omari Aldridge on Oct. 28, 2004.
Then, on Sunday, Hepple had the primary assist on classmate Chuko Evwaraye's goal vs. IPFW. Hepple has been involved in the scoring on six of BGSU's eight goals this season to date.
Hepple leads the team with five goals and 11 points on the season, setting a career-best total in goals and tying his career best in points. He is BGSU's active career leader in goals (12), assists (nine) and points (33).
Currently, Hepple leads the MAC in no fewer than five categories, including goals, goals per game (0.71), points, point per game (1.57) and shots (22).
The Falcons of head coach Eric Nichols hit the road to face a pair of nationally-ranked teams this week. BGSU will travel to Ann Arbor, Mich., for a Wednesday night (Sept. 23) game vs. the University of Michigan. Then, the Falcons will open MAC play by taking on the number-one team in the nation, the University of Akron, on Saturday night (Sept. 26).
