Junior Drew Preston Tied for Fifth at Bearcat Invite in 2009
The Bowling Green State University men's golf team resumes the fall leg of it's 2010-11 season when the Falcons travel to Hebron, Ky. for the 2010 (Cincinnati) Bearcat Invitational. The 54-hole event will be played on Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 11-12).
Awaiting the Falcons are 17 teams from across the Midwest, including three opponents from the Mid-American Conference -- Ball State, Northern Illinois and Ohio University. Also competing from Ohio are Cleveland State, Dayton and Youngstown State.
The tournament consists of 54 holes over three days at the Traditions Golf Club, which presents a par-72, 7,103 yard course. The first two rounds of 18 holes will be played on Monday, and the final round will commence on Tuesday. Both days begin with at 9:00 a.m. with a shotgun start.
The Orange and Brown participated in the Bearcat Invitational in 2009, and placed sixth in the field of 17 teams. Their performance included first-day scores of 296 and 295. The first-round 296 tied for the best opening round score of the tournament, while the team's 295 over the second 18 was one of the top five scores of that round.
Junior Drew Preston returns to Traditions after shooting 220 in last year's tourney, including a second-round 69, as he tied for fifth place. Fellow junior Parker Hewit and sophomore Wes Gates will also return to the course after playing in last year's event.
Joining them will be two of Bowling Green's newcomers, Charlie Olson and Chris Melvin.
The Falcons return to the links for the first time since winning the John Piper Intercollegiate two weeks ago. Preston won the John Piper with a two-round score of 139, while Hewit and Gates each compete this week after top ten finishes of their own at Bowling Green's only home tournament of the season.
