Hammond, Prochaska Named Papa John's Athletes Of The Week
December 06, 2010 | General, Ice Hockey, Women's Basketball
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Papa John's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are hockey player Andrew Hammond and women's basketball player Lauren Prochaska.
Male Athlete of the Week
Andrew Hammond, a sophomore from Surrey, British Columbia, had arguably his best CCHA game this season between the pipes in the team's 1-1 tie with Lake Superior State on Saturday. He allowed just one goal, saving 29 shots, including 17 in the third period alone. He added two more in the overtime and killed off two Lake Superior State power play opportunities in the contest with a pair of saves.
Female Athlete of the Week
Lauren Prochaska, a senior from Plain City, Ohio, averaged 26.0 points per game as the Falcons swept a pair of games this week. She scored a season-high 31 as BGSU defeated nationally-ranked Vanderbilt 79-68, tying her career high with six assists and adding five rebounds. She then scored 21 points in only 26 minutes against Cal State Fullerton and continued her streak of consecutive free-throws made at 61, a new MAC record. She is just five shy of tying the NCAA Division I record. On the year, she made a remarkable 69-of-70 free-throws for 98.6 percent.
