Polk, Nurse Named Papa John's Athletes Of The Week
March 01, 2010 | General, Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Papa John's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are men's basketball player Otis Polk and women's basketball player Tamika Nurse.
Male Athlete of the Week
Otis Polk, a senior from Detroit, Mich., scored a career-high 21 points in a loss to Kent State and averaged 19.0 points and 7.0 rebounds in two games this week. Polk shot 79 percent from the field by making 8-of-9 shots against Kent State and then 7-of-10 in a loss to Akron. He also made 8-of-10 free-throws, including all five of his attempts in his 21-point outing. Polk came up one rebound shy of a double-double in that contest, finishing with nine rebounds.
Female Athlete of the Week
Tamika Nurse, a senior from Hamilton, Ontario, averaged 22.0 points per game as the Falcons clinched the MAC's East Division title with a pair of wins last week. She shot 48 percent from the field on the week, including an 8-of-14 performance from three-point range. Nurse had 20 points in the Falcons' win over Buffalo, her most points in a MAC game this year, then followed that up with a career-best 24 points in Saturday's win over Kent State, clinching the division crown on Senior Day.
