BGSU Men’s Hoops Inks MEC Player Of The Year Trey Simmons

Simmons Scored Over 700 Points For Frostburg State
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball program and head coach Todd Simon announced the signing of transfer guard Trey Simmons. A 6-foot-1 rising junior guard, Simmons spent the last two seasons at Division-II Frostburg State. Starting all 29 games for the Bobcats, Simmons was named the MEC Player of the Year as well as D2CCA Atlantic Region First Team.
Simmons is coming off a historic season for Frostburg, scoring a program-record 703 points while his 24.2 points per game ranked third in school history. His point total also ranked ninth in the nation for Division-II while his points per game finished fifth. On top of the scoring output, Simmons managed to maintain a 48.3-percent mark from the field, going 242-for-501, while shooting 38.0-percent from behind the arc with 54 makes on 142 attempts. His percentages rounded out with a 77.1-percent clip at the line (165-of-214). Simmons aided his scoring by leading the team in assists with 94. He completed his stat line with 84 rebounds, 44 steals and 15 blocks while averaging a conference-high 34.2 minutes per game.
Following the season, Simmons received a host of accolades, beginning with being the Mountain East Conference Player of the Year. At the conference level, he added First Team All-MEC and MEC All-Tournament honors. After the season, he was also named D2CCA All-Atlantic Region First Team, the first All-Region selection for Frostburg State since 2013.
"Trey is a dynamic lead guard that can score on all three levels," said Simon. "His explosiveness and ability to create havoc in the open floor is an asset to our system. He shoots it well and can impact on-ball screen offense. He fits our culture and has a strong work ethic."
