April 14, 2010 | Men's Basketball
Bowling Green, Ohio – Bowling Green State University senior Marc Larson and junior Joe Jakubowski were named to the Mid-American Conference Academic All-MAC men's basketball team Wednesday afternoon. BGSU was the only school to have multiple members on the five-person team.
Larson and Jakubowski join Buffalo's John Boyer, Northern Illinois' Xavier Silas, and Western Michigan's David Kool on the squad. Larson, who was also named ESPN The Magazine Second Team Academic All-American this year, received the honor for the third time in his career and Jakubowski was named to the team for the second time.
Larson owns an astounding 3.97 grade point average in engineering technology and played in all 30 games during his senior season for the Falcons. He ended his career ranked 10th in school history in blocked shots with 83, blocking 19 this past year. He averaged 5.6 points and 4.2 rebounds per contest in 2009-10 and capped his career with his first career double-double at Western Michigan with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Jakubowski holds a 3.32 grade point average in business and has started 85 consecutive games for Bowling Green dating back to the 2007-08 season. He averaged 8.3 points in 2009-10 and led the team with 3.7 assists per game. Jakubowski finished the season by making his final 21 free-throw attempts to lead the team at 77.6 percent. He also finished second on the team in steals and three-point percentage.
Bowling Green went 14-16 during the 2009-10 season and 6-10 in Mid-American Conference play but the Falcons did have a handful of signature wins throughout the year. BGSU defeated both the MAC regular season champions Kent State and the MAC Tournament champions Ohio, as well as picking up a non-conference victory over St. Louis, one of the top teams in the Atlantic 10. The Falcons also beat rival Toledo 58-47, defeating the Rockets for the third consecutive season.
