Johnson Earned MEAC All-Rookie Team Honors In 2024-25
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball program and head coach Todd Simon announced the signing of rising junior guard Jayden Johnson. A 6-foot-1 guard from Brooklyn, N.Y., Johnson spent the last two seasons with South Carolina State, appearing in 56 games with 40 starts for the Bulldogs and averaging just shy of 10 points per game over his two seasons.
A Second-Team All-MEAC selection at the conclusion of the 2025-26 season, Johnson totaled 429 points this past year, averaging 13.4 per game while maintaining a 43.2-percent mark from the field. Johnson posted 23 games this year with double-digit points and six 20-point games, including a season-high 28 against Norfolk State in the MEAC Quarterfinals. He was also named the MEAC Player of the Week following the Bulldogs' conference opener where he hit the game-winning shot to cap off a 24-point game followed by a 25-point game against Tennessee.
As for his freshman season in 2024-25 with South Carolina State, Johnson earned a spot on the MEAC All-Rookie Team. The recognition came after he appeared in 24 games with 11 starts for the Bulldogs while shooting 43.6-percent from the field. He produced five double-digit scoring games over the course of the season, including a season-high 16 against Georgia. Johnson's freshman campaign resulted in him being named the MEAC Preseason Player of the Year entering the 2025-26 season.
On top of his scoring efforts, Johnson totaled 165 assists over his two seasons, including a team-leading 111 during his sophomore season. He completed his stat line with 154 rebounds, 71 steals and a pair of blocks over his two seasons. Johnson also shot a combined 43.3-percent from the field, 35.6-percent from three and 73.1-percent from the line.
"Jayden is an exciting addition to our program," said Simon. "Last season he was a second team all-conference player in the MEAC who plays the game the right way with his playmaking and toughness. He was among the national leaders in assist rate and also showed an ability to get to the free throw line. He shot a high percentage from the three-point line as well. His ability to create steals will also be a fit for our defense. We look forward to having him as a Falcon."
