Falcons Eighth After Day One of MAC Championships

The Bowling Green State University women's golf team fired a 335 on day one of the Mid-American Conference Championships to sit in eighth after 18 holes of action. The tournament is being hosted by the University of Toledo at the par-72, 6,037-yard Hawthorns Golf & Country Club. Rain started falling midway through the round with intermittent showers continuing throughout the afternoon.
Kent State leads the field after 18 holes, carding a 297, followed by Ball State (301) and Western Michigan (305) for top-three honors.
The Falcons were led by MAC Freshman of the Year Candidate Susy Grunden, who opened with a 78 (39-39). The Krum, Texas, native is currently tied for 18th. Grunden recorded the second lowest score by a freshman on Friday afternoon.
Marisa Glew, Amy Ruthenberg and Lauren Glew were just one shot apart. Marisa Glew fired an 85 to sit in a tie for 36th, while Ruthenberg, who was competing at her first MAC Championship, and Lauren Glew carded 86's, which place them both in a tie for 40th.
Hannah Lambert rounded out the Falcon line. The lone senior on this year's squad fired a 90 to sit in 44th.
Round two begins on Saturday morning.
