Men's Soccer Falcons Announce 2010 Schedule
May 19, 2010 | Men's Soccer
Bowling Green State University men's soccer coach Eric Nichols has announced his team's fall schedule for 2010. The Falcons' 17-match regular-season schedule includes six at Cochrane Field. Two of BGSU's six home matches are against NCAA tourney teams from a year ago, including a home-opening contest against the 2009 national runner-up.
2010 BGSU Schedule
The Falcons' schedule includes a contest vs. Akron on Sept. 11 that will serve as both the home and the Mid-American Conference opener for the Brown and Orange. The Zips won the league regular-season and tournament titles and advanced to the championship game of the NCAA Championships in 2009.
BGSU also plays a pair of opponents that advanced to the second round of the NCAAs last fall, heading to Butler on Oct. 13 and hosting Michigan State one week later (Oct. 20).
Following three exhibition matches in August, including a pair at home, the Falcons will begin the 2010 regular season with a pair of contests at the Davidson Tournament. Nichols spent a season as an assistant coach at Davidson prior to coming to BGSU. The Falcons will face Appalachian State (Sept. 3) and host DC (Sept. 5) in that tourney.
BGSU returns home to face Akron before meeting three consecutive Horizon League opponents. The Falcons will travel to Detroit (Sept. 15) and Valparaiso (Sept. 19), then will start a season-long three-game homestand with a match against Wright State (Sept. 22).
The Brown and Orange also will face Lipscomb (Sept. 26) and Western Michigan (Oct. 1) as part of that homestand.
After a contest at IPFW (Oct. 6) – one of four trips to Indiana – BG will conclude the home portion of the MAC schedule with a match against Buffalo (Oct. 9). Then, the Brown and Orange will play six of the last seven regular-season matches on the road.
That stretch includes four-straight matches vs. teams that posted double-digit win totals last year, starting with a trip to Butler (Oct. 13). The Bulldogs earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships in 2009, advancing to the second round.
After a trip to New York to face MAC affiliate member Hartwick (Oct. 16), the Falcons close the home portion of the schedule with a midweek matchup vs. Michigan State (Oct. 20). The Spartans advanced to the second round of last year's NCAA Championships.
BG's season-ending four-game road swing starts with a trip to Ann Arbor to face Michigan (Oct. 27) for the second-straight season. BGSU ends October with a journey to the MAC's “West Coast” and a matchup with Northern Illinois (Oct. 30).
November begins with a non-conference game against IUPUI in Indianapolis (Nov. 3), and the Falcons close the regular season with a trip to Boca Raton, Fla., to face Florida Atlantic (Nov. 6). The Owls, like Hartwick, are a MAC affiliate member for men's soccer.
