Zach Lemke Named to Academic All-MAC Team
February 07, 2011 | Men's Soccer
Bowling Green State University men's soccer standout Zach Lemke was named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team, the league office announced recently. Lemke, in his first year of eligibility for the team, earned honorable mention.
Lemke, a native of Beavercreek, Ohio (Beavercreek H.S.), played in 16 of BGSU's 18 games, making 14 starts. A defender during the 2009 season, he settled into more of an offensive role as a redshirt sophomore in 2010, and had three points on a goal and an assist.
Lemke's first collegiate goal proved to be the game winner, as he headed home a cross early in the Falcons' MAC victory over Buffalo at Cochrane Field on Oct. 9. He picked up an assist in another conference win, earning the lone helper on Ryan Comiskey's goal at Florida Atlantic (Nov. 6). That goal, coming in the 70th minute, gave the Brown and Orange a 2-1 win at FAU, clinching a berth in the conference tournament.
Lemke started the final 11 matches of the year, and had 23 total shot attempts on the year, tying for third on the team. He played a season-high 103 minutes in a double-overtime draw at IUPUI (Nov. 3), and played all 90 minutes in BGSU's MAC Tournament semifinal match vs. Western Michigan (Nov. 12).
In the classroom, Lemke had a 3.47 cumulative grade-point average as a sport management major at the time of nomination (prior to the end of the fall semester). Through the fall semester, Lemke's cumulative GPA is now 3.58.
The Academic All-MAC Team is the result of voting by the faculty athletics representatives at conference institutions. To qualify for nomination, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests.
