BGSU Announces Inaugural Athletics Honors Society Class
March 21, 2011 | General
Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University Athletics Department has announced the inaugural class for Chi Alpha Sigma – the National College Athlete Honor Society. The department has announced 50 members for the initial class.
Chi Alpha Sigma is a non-profit organization established to recognize college student-athletes who earn a varsity letter and maintain a 3.4 or higher cumulative grade point average through their junior and senior years. The group exists to encourage and reward high academic scholarship of college athletes at four-year accredited colleges and universities.
The organization was founded at DePauw University and BGSU Faculty Athletic Representative Dr. Lee Meserve was instrumental in establishing Chi Alpha Sigma, the Ohio Xi chapter, at the University for the first time this year. Bowling Green is the 10th school in the state of Ohio to have a charter, joining Mid-American Conference schools Kent State and Ohio, as well as out of state MAC schools Buffalo, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan and Ball State.
The student-athletes who are members of the National College Athlete Honor Society will be able to wear a cord at graduation acknowledging the achievement. Listed below are the members of the first class at Bowling Green.
