BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Bowling Green State University (BGSU) Athletics and the Allen W. and Carol M. Schmidthorst College of Business have expanded their partnership, naming the Schmidthorst College of Business the presenting partner of Bowling Green Women's Athletics. The agreement marks the first time nationally that a college of business has become the presenting partner of a university's women's athletics programs. The partnership spans all 11 BGSU women's sports, including basketball, cross country, golf, gymnastics, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, tennis, track and field (indoor and outdoor), and volleyball.
"This partnership represents a defining moment for Bowling Green Athletics and the Schmidthorst College of Business," said BGSU Vice President for Athletics Strategy Derek van der Merwe. "For the first time, an academic college is serving as the presenting sponsor of all of our women's athletic programs, demonstrating a shared commitment to excellence both in competition and in the classroom. At its core, this partnership is about investing in our female student-athletes by preparing them for success on the court and long after their playing careers have ended. Together, we're creating opportunities that extend beyond the field of play while showcasing the strength of collaboration across our university. It's an innovative partnership that reflects who we are as an institution and where we're headed together."
The expanded agreement builds on a foundation that began in 2024, deepening the relationship between two of BGSU's flagship programs and creating new opportunities to support women student-athletes inside and outside of competition.
A key component of the partnership is a campaign highlighting female Falcon student-athletes who are currently enrolled in the Schmidthorst College of Business. The campaign will feature video and graphic content across BGSU Athletics' social channels, telling the stories of the women student-athletes who are competing at a high level while pursuing their business degrees.
"The Schmidthorst College of Business is honored to partner with Falcon Athletics as the presenting sponsor of women's athletics," said Dean of the Schmidthorst College of Business Dr. Jennifer Percival. "As home to many student-athletes, we value the leadership, teamwork, and perseverance they develop in competition, qualities that define exceptional business leaders. This innovative partnership reflects our commitment to building strong leaders while enhancing the student experience. Together, we are strengthening connections across the Bowling Green community and look forward to cheering on our Falcons all year long."
Additional elements of the partnership include increased visibility and branding of Schmidthorst College of Business on game days and across women's sports social media and digital marketing channels.
"We are grateful to the Allen W. and Carol M. Schmidthorst College of Business for expanding its partnership and helping create unprecedented opportunities for Bowling Green Women's Athletics," said Manager for Business Development with Falcon Sports Properties Adam Hushon.
The deal was facilitated by Falcon Sports Properties, the locally based team of Learfield — the leading media and technology company powering college athletics — which serves as the exclusive multimedia rights holder for Bowling Green Athletics and oversees all sponsorship agreements on behalf of the Falcons.
