BGSU 16th After Day One Of Rio Verde Invitational

The Bowling Green State University women's golf team began its spring season in rough fashion on Friday (March 4) when the team combined for a score of 337 in the first round of the 2011 Rio Verde Invitational.
The Falcons currently reside in 16th place out of 17 teams, seven of whom represent the Mid-American Conference. BGSU finished the day seven shots ahead of MAC opponent Ohio University, who is last with a total of 344 strokes. Xavier is in 15th place, 11 shots ahead of the Falcons, while both Ball State and Bradley are 14 shots ahead and tied for 13th overall.
Freshman Bailey Arnold and senior co-captain Marisa Glew share the lead for the Falcon contingent, as each scored 83 during the first round. The pair are tied for 61st overall.
Amy Ruthenberg provided the Falcons' only two birdies of the day, and she rests one shot behind Arnold and Glew. Her total of 84 strokes places her in a tie for 69th place.
Falcon veterans Paula DiFrancesco (87) and co-captain Lauren Glew (92) rounded out the day of action for the Orange and Brown.
The tournament continues tomorrow on Rio Verde's White Wing Golf Course with the second round. Play begins with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. MT. The BGSU contingent will begin play on the 16th through 18th holes and will be paired with players from Ohio and Xavier.
Kelsey Benson will also play beginning tomorrow; she will participate in an individual tournament on Rio Verde's Quail Run course.
Eastern Michigan leads the tournament after the first round and have three of the top five individuals, including one in a two-way tie for the individual lead. Defending champion Michigan is in second, six shots back.
