Armstrong, Galen Named Papa John's Athletes Of The Week
September 19, 2011 | General, Men's Soccer, Volleyball
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Papa John's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are soccer player Colin Armstrong and volleyball player Kari Galen.
Male Athlete of the Week
Colin Armstrong, a senior from Worthington, Ohio, scored a goal in each of BGSU's two matches at the Hyatt Place Brentwood Invitational in Nashville. His goal late in the first half against Belmont was the team's first of the game and cut Belmont's lead in half. He then scored a goal less than five minutes into Sunday's game against Lipscomb, helping the Falcons to a 1-1 tie.
Female Athlete of the Week
Kari Galen, a junior from Aurora, Ill., hit a remarkable .676 on the weekend as BGSU set a new school record with a 12-0 start to the season. She hit .500 with four kills in the opening match and improved to .583 with eight kills in the second match. In the final contest of the weekend against host Bucknell, Galen had 14 kills on 17 swings for an .824 attack percentage, just missing the school record for a single match.
