Falcons Finish 14th at Firestone

The Bowling Green State University men's golf team finished 14th at the Firestone Intercollegiate with a 36-hole score of 607 (300-307). The event was hosted by the University of Akron and featured a field of 17 teams.
Ball State won the tournament with a 569, followed by St. Mary's (582) and Davidson (583) to round out the top three. Other schools from the Mid-American Conference included Akron (584, 4th), Eastern Michigan (592, 9th), Miami (603, 12th) and Ohio (613, 17th).
The Falcons were led by seniors Wes Gates and Charlie Olson, both finishing tied for 45th with a 36-hole score of 151 (75-76).
Junior Chris Melvin shot 77 on Tuesday, combined with his 75 in the opening round, to end the tournament tied for 57th (153), Joe Cooper fired the same 153 (season-best), carding a 75-78 in the two rounds.
Completing the Falcons' roster was freshman Holden Pahr who finished tied for 74th (75-80--155).
BGSU will return to action on Oct. 22 as they are scheduled to compete in the UD Invitational in Dayton, Ohio.
