BGSU Races To USTFCCCA Academic Honor For Second Straight Year
February 15, 2012 | Men's Cross Country
NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association released its list of 2011 All-Academic Teams on Wednesday (Feb. 15). For the second consecutive year, the Bowling Green State University men's cross country team is among the honorees.
Prior to the 2010 season, the Falcons had not earned the All-Academic Team distinction in nine years. Last season, the team ranked fifth among all Mid-American Conference teams with a 3.10 cumulative grade point average.
This year, BGSU surpassed both of those marks. The 2011 Falcons have posted a GPA of 3.35, and that places them second in the MAC. Five MAC schools are on this year's list, and Bowling Green finished ahead of Akron, Kent State and Ohio.
Nationally, the Falcons are in the top third of the country, as they rank 40th among the 147 All-Academic teams in 2011.
The entire USTFCCCA release can be found HERE.
To earn All-Academic Team honors, a team must carry a minimum GPA of 3.0, and at least five runners from the team must compete in that season's NCAA regional meet.
