No. 1 Baylor Faces Florida Tonight In The Stroh Center
March 20, 2012 | General
Bowling Green, Ohio – The only undefeated women's basketball team in the country, Baylor, faces Florida tonight in the Stroh Center in the NCAA Women's Basketball Division I Tournament Second Round. Tip time is set for 7:05 p.m. Fans are encouraged to purchase limited remaining tickets now as Sunday's first round in the Stroh Center was sold out.
“We were thrilled with the turnout Sunday,” Associate Athletics Director Lesley Irvine said. “With the sell-out crowd in the building, the atmosphere was electric. It's our goal to provide the same experience tonight for Baylor and Florida. This is the highest level of basketball and it is being played right here in Bowling Green. It has been a fantastic experience for many reasons.”
Baylor is 35-0 and could become the first team in women's basketball history to win 40 games if the Bears are able to complete a run to the National Championship. Florida, a No. 9 seed, upset eighth-seeded Ohio State in the opening round Sunday afternoon in the Stroh Center 70-65. Baylor began with an 81-40 victory over No. 16 seed UC Santa Barbara.
Tonight's game features a match-up of nationally prominent post players. Baylor's Brittany Griner, a 6-foot-8 national Player of the Year candidate, ranks second in the NCAA Women's Basketball history in career blocked shots. In the first round game against UC Santa Barbara, she set the all-time NCAA record for blocked shots in a career in tournament games. Florida is led by Jennifer George, an undersized post at 6-0, but still averaged nearly a double-double during the season at 13.1 points and 8.9 rebounds.
Also, tonight's halftime entertainment will feature the Hyperdogs Frisbee Dog Show directed by John Casey and performed by Ziggy and Scout.
Limited tickets remain for tonight's contest and can be purchased by calling the BGSU Ticket Office at 877-BGSU TICKET.
