Baraldi Named to College Sports Madness Preseason All-MAC Team
August 20, 2012 | Men's Soccer
Baraldi, a native of Canton, Ohio (Massillon Jackson H.S.), was one of three players to start all 18 matches last season. He led the Falcons in scoring in 2011, with 18 points on the year, and also paced BGSU in goals (five), assists (eight) and shots on goal (21). Baraldi tied for 17th in the nation in assists per game (0.44) and deadlocked for 21st in the country in total assists, leading all freshmen in NCAA Division I in both categories.
Baraldi was directly involved in the scoring of 13 of BGSU's 22 goals last season. He tied for the team lead with a pair of game-winning goals, and his assist total was the highest by a BGSU player since 2003.
Baraldi's first collegiate goal came in his first collegiate match, as he scored in the 64th minute against then-#9 Michigan last Aug. 26. For his efforts against the Wolverines, was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week two days later. Baraldi's other winner came at Pittsburgh (Sept. 11), as he blasted home a shot from distance in the 83rd minute of that 1-0 victory. He was named to the all-tournament team that weekend, at the Pitt/Nike Invitational, and also earned all-tourney-team honors the following weekend, at the Hyatt Place Brentwood Invitational in Nashville.
Baraldi also had goals vs. Florida Atlantic (Oct. 2) and in back-to-back matches to end the season, at Wright State (Nov. 1) and Western Michigan (Nov. 5). He had two-assist games vs. both IPFW (Aug. 31) and Detroit (Sept. 21).
His six-game point-scoring streak, from Sept. 11-Oct. 2, was the longest by a BGSU player in over a decade. Baraldi had two goals and five assists in that stretchxs.
