The Bowling Green State University women's golf team will open its 2012-13 campaign this weekend at the Redbird

A total of 16 teams will be competing in the two-day event, including six teams from the Mid-American Conference. The complete field includes: Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Bradley, Detroit, Drake, Eastern Kentucky, Evansville, Illinois State, Illinois Wesleyan, Oakland, Ohio, South Dakota State, Southern Illinois, Toledo and Western Illinois.
The Falcons, as a team, had reasonable success last season at the Redbird Invitational, finishing fifth among the 16-team field, carding a 54-hole score of 932.
Individually, Bailey Arnold is the defending champion of the tournament after defeating Toledo's Piyathisa Chaiyapan in a playoff last year. Arnold ended the tournament with a 222 (76-74-72), the third lowest 54-hole score in BGSU history.
The Falcons' lineup at the 2012 Redbird Invitational will include Arnold (74.48 avg.) and returners Patricia Holt (82.59 avg.) and Shelby Wilson (78.70 avg.). Freshmen Lily Bartell and Hannah Lewis will be competing in their first tournament of their Falcon careers.
Other Falcons, Kelsey Benson, Jen Blanchard, Lauren Diehl, Julia Hoffman and Amy Ruthenberg will not compete this weekend, but are expected to contribute throughout the year.
