Additionally, live stats as well as a free live video stream will be available for Tuesday's match at Wright State.
THE STARTING XI (11 things you should know about the Falcons)
• The Falcons are 4-6-4 on the season after splitting a pair of matches last week. BGSU suffered a 1-0, double-overtime loss to Cleveland State on Wednesday night (Oct. 16) at Cochrane Field, for the team's first OT loss in over two years.
• On Saturday (Oct. 19), though, the Brown and Orange bounced back with a convincing 2-0 win at Davidson. Freshman Joe Sullivan gave BGSU the lead just six minutes into the match, and junior Danny Baraldi provided some insurance with a late goal. Senior Michael Wiest had eight saves in net for the Falcons.
• Four of the Falcons' six losses this season have come to teams that are ranked in the top 25 or receiving votes in at least one national poll.
• Half of BGSU's losses have come to Horizon League foes, as the Falcons are 0-3 vs. HL opposition in 2013. BGSU's last win over a Horizon League club came just under a year ago, and came against Tuesday's opponent. A Ryan James goal gave the Falcons a 3-2 overtime victory against Wright State at Cochrane Field (Oct. 30, 2012).
• That victory gave the Falcons possession of the I-75 Cup, a travelling trophy that goes to the winner of the BGSU-Wright State match each year. The Falcons have won two of the three meetings since BG head coach Eric Nichols and WSU coach Bryan Davis came up with the idea prior to the 2010 season.
• After the victory at Davidson, the Falcons are looking to win back-to-back games for the first time this season. BG has not won two games in a row since a three-game streak last October.
• The Falcons enter Tuesday's match unbeaten in the last four road games, having gone 2-0-2 in that time. BG's last road loss was a 1-0 setback at Akron on Sept. 21. The Brown and Orange then tied Marshall and Northern Kentucky, before winning at Buffalo and Davidson.
• Wiest and BGSU have not allowed a goal on the road since late in regulation of that Marshall match on Sept. 27. The Falcons enter the Wright State contest having gone exactly 312 minutes without surrendering a goal in a road game.
• Prior to the Davidson match, the last time the Falcons had scored two or more goals in a game was in the season opener, a 5-0 win over Malone back on Aug. 30.
• The last time BGSU had scored two or more goals against a Division-I opponent was in last season's overtime win over Wright State.
• And, the last time the Falcons had scored two goals on the road was 51 weeks prior to the Davidson match, in a 2-0 victory at Florida Atlantic on Oct. 26, 2012.
WIEST IS A BEAST (#WiestIsABeast)
• Senior goalkeeper Michael Wiest made a season-high eight saves as he and the BG defense recorded a shutout at Davidson Saturday night. The clean sheet was Wiest's sixth of the season, and his fourth in the last six matches. Wiest now has 19 shutouts in his career.
• Wiest has been in goal for every second of the Falcons' 14 matches this season to date. In addition to the six complete-match shutouts, the Naperville, Ill., native has 54 saves, a goals-against average of just 0.79 and a saves percentage of .818. Wiest currently leads the MAC in saves pct., and is second in the league in shutouts, GAA and saves.
• In MAC games only, Wiest has a saves percentage of .900 and a microscopic GAA of 0.32, having allowed only one goal in the three conference contests.
• In his career, Wiest now has a total of 197 saves, a saves pct. of .804 and a GAA of 0.99 in 48 career matches.
• Wiest is the first Falcon 'keeper to record six or more shutouts in three consecutive seasons since another Naperville, Ill., native did so a decade-and-a-half ago. BGSU Hall-of-Famer Scott Vallow posted double-digit shutout totals in each of his four seasons (1995-98) en route to a BGSU-record 42 career shutouts.
ABOUT THE FALCONS
The Falcons are 4-6-4 on the season, and BGSU is 2-1-0 in MAC play. BG has a record of 2-2-2 at home this year, and the Falcons are 2-3-2 on the road and 0-1-0 in neutral-site matches to date.
The Falcons have both scored and given up 12 goals on the season. Senior Anthony Grant leads the team with three goals and seven points. Junior Danny Baraldi and freshman Joe Sullivan, each of whom scored in Saturday's (Oct. 19) win at Davidson, are tied for second on the team with two goals apiece. Sullivan is second on the Falcons with six points this fall, while Baraldi has five.
Five other Falcons have one goal apiece. That group includes seniors Ryan Comiskey, Joey D'Agostino, Brandon Silva and Ryan Snashall and sophomore Ryan James.
BGSU has a total of 12 assists, with Sullivan and senior Sean Sikich leading the way with two apiece. Eight of their teammates have one assist each.
Three Falcons have started all 14 of BGSU's matches to date. That list includes Sikich, Silva and fellow senior Michael Wiest. D'Agostino, Grant, senior Zach Schewee and sophomore Jake Genrich each have made 13 starts, while Baraldi, James and Snashall have started 11 matches apiece.
In goal, Wiest has played every second of every match this season to date. He has 54 saves, six shutouts and a goals-against average of 0.79. In three MAC matches, Wiest has a GAA of 0.32 and a saves pct. of .900.
Wiest and Sikich each have played all 1363 minutes this season, while Silva has been on the pitch for 1350 minutes and Schewee 1330.
Head coach Eric Nichols and his staff returned a total of 13 letterwinners, including nine starters, from last year's club. The 2012 Falcons finished with an overall record of 8-9-3 and a MAC mark of 3-3-1. BGSU tied for fourth in the league regular-season standings last fall, and qualified for the MAC Tournament.
SCOUTING THE RAIDERS
Wright State enters Tuesday's BGSU match with an overall record of 3-7-1, and the Raiders are 1-3-0 in Horizon League play after a heartbreaking 3-2 overtime loss at UIC on Saturday night. In that match, WSU rallied from a 2-0 deficit with a pair of goals in the final 10 minutes of regulation, only to see the Flames score the winner in the second OT. The Raiders are 2-2-0 at home and 1-5-1 on the road this season to date. Brett Elder paces the WSU offense with 13 points. He has scored six of the team's 14 goals this fall. Eric Lynch has eight points, including a team-high six assists. In goal, Tyler Blackmer and Craig Feehan each have seen time. Blackmer has 31 saves, two shutouts and a 1.50 goals-against average, while Feehan has 20 stops, one shutout and a 1.68 GAA. Head coach Bryan Davis and the Raiders finished the 2012 season with an overall record of 4-13-1 and a HL mark of 2-4-1.
A LOOK AT THE HAWKS
Hartwick has a 4-7-2 overall record, and the Hawks are 2-2-0 in MAC play. Hartwick is idle until Saturday's match at BGSU. The Hawks opened conference action with a pair of key wins, including a 2-0 victory at Akron and a 1-0 home win over West Virginia. 'Wick's last two matches, however, have been one-goal losses, at Buffalo (2-1) and at home vs. Western Michigan (1-0). The Hawks are 3-2-1 at home, 1-4-1 on the road and 0-1-0 in neutral-site matches to date. Individually, Will Broomfield leads the offense with four goals and 10 points. Mateo Munarriz has played every second of every match in goal, and has 38 saves, three shutouts and a GAA of 1.17. Head coach John Scott and the Hawks finished the 2012 season with an overall record of 5-10-2 and a MAC mark of 2-5-0.
THE SERIES
The Falcons and Wright State are tied, 6-6-2, in the all-time series between the teams, and BGSU captured last season's meeting. Last year, Ryan James scored two goals, including the overtime winner, as the Falcons posted a 3-2, come-from-behind win over the Raiders at Cochrane Field (Oct. 30, 2012). Zach Schewee also scored for the Falcons, while Brett Elder had both goals for WSU. In the Falcons' last trip to Dayton, the Raiders picked up a 2-1 win two years ago (Nov. 1, 2011). BGSU is 4-2-2 in home games and 2-4-0 in road matches with the Raiders through the years.
BGSU and Hartwick are deadlocked, 2-2-3, in that series, with the teams playing to three double-overtime draws in as many meetings at Cochrane Field. Last year, the host Hawks downed the Falcons, 2-0, on a pair of shots that were deflected by BGSU defenders (Sept. 28, 2012). That result snapped a three-match series unbeaten streak for the Falcons. Two years ago, in the last meeting at BGSU, the Falcons and Hawks battled to a 1-1, double-overtime draw in the first-ever BG men's soccer night game at Cochrane Field (Oct. 22, 2011). After a 1-0 BGSU win in 1984, the teams did not play again until Hartwick became an affiliate member of the MAC in 2007.
The complete list of the Falcons' match-by-match series results against both WSU and Hartwick can be found on page 4 of the PDF version of these notes.
