Falcons fall in four sets at Toledo
TOLEDO, Ohio—The Bowling Green State University volleyball team could not complete a weekend road sweep on Saturday night, as the Falcons dropped a four set battle to Toledo inside Savage Arena. With the loss, the Falcons are now 11-11 and 7-3 overall in the MAC.
Paige Penrod posted her second straight double-double, as she led the Falcons with 17 kills and 10 digs in the match. Lindsey Butterfield added 16 kills, as she hit .429 in the match. Libby Dachenhaus tied her season high in digs, as she added 17.
Similarly to last night at Ball State, the Falcons fell behind early on Saturday night. But, the Orange and Brown wouldn't be able to overcome the five point deficit, and would fall in the first 25-20.
The Falcons led 13-10 midway through the second set, but UT would score eight of the next nine to take an 18-14 lead. The Orange and Brown would get no closer than two points the rest of the set, as the Rockets finished off the second set with a 25-21 win.
Trailing two sets to none, the Falcons would respond out of halftime, winning the third set 25-16. UT would use their first timeout of the third set, as Bowling Green led 12-5 out of the shoot. Toledo would score the next three to get within 12-8. But, the Falcons would score eight of the next 13, as they found themselves ahead 20-13 late in the set. The Orange and Brown would stave off defeat in the third, scoring the final two points of the set to win 25-16
The Falcons led early in the fourth set, but UT would go on a 6-2 run to go ahead 9-8. In fact, once the Falcons went ahead 8-6 in the fourth set, the Rockets would score six straight to take control of the match. BGSU would get no closer than three points the rest of the set, dropping the match with a 25-19 setback.
The Falcons will continue with two MAC games next weekend. On Thursday night, BGSU will play host to Miami before traveling to Western Michigan on Saturday night.
