FREMONT, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University swimming team began the 2013-14 season on Friday evening, hosting the Tom Stubbs Relays at Fremont Ross High School. The Falcons posted four wins in 10 relay events. Toledo, Akron, Youngstown State, and Findlay also participated in the meet.
"We are pleased with the results of the relays," head coach Petra Martin said. "We enjoyed racing all the other teams and starting to get into the competitive mode of the season. We were able to see how we pull together as a team under more pressure and put our last four weeks of training to the test. It is still pretty early in the season but we definitely got a chance to see where our strengths are and what we need to keep working on."
Due to the renovations during the 2013-14 academic year at the Bowling Green State University Student Recreation Center, the meet was held at Fremont Ross High School's Hawk-Bucci Natatorium.
"I would like to give a big thank you to everyone at Fremont Ross High School and the Fremont swimming and diving community for hosting the relays at the the Hawk-Bucci Natatorium and for all the hospitality and support they have been giving us," Martin said. "It is always fun to work together with everyone at Fremont and it definitely brings more great exposure to our sport."
The Falcons will return to Bowling Green for tomorrow's Jean Campbell Alumni Meet. In conjunction with Homecoming Weekend at Bowling Green State University, Falcon swimming will welcome a number of swimming alumni back to Cooper Pool. The meet will begin at 11:00 a.m.
"We are looking forward to spending time with all of our Alumni the rest of the weekend," Martin finished.
The Falcons will begin the dual-meet season on October 26, when they travel to Eastern Michigan for a 1:00 p.m. start.
More information about today's Tom Stubbs Relays will be availalble on Saturday when results become available.
