The All-MAC Team and league specialty awards are the results of voting by the MAC's seven men's soccer head coaches.
BGSU's total of four all-conference honorees was the team's highest since the 1997 season.
Baraldi earns All-MAC honors for the second time in his career, and the second time in as many seasons. Comiskey, Silva and Wiest all are on the all-league team for the first time.
BGSU's total of four players selected was the second-highest among conference schools. Regular-season champion Akron led the way with 10 total All-MAC selections, while Hartwick and Western Michigan had three apiece. Two West Virginia players and one each from Buffalo and Northern Illinois rounded out the all-league teams.
Baraldi, a native of Canton, Ohio (Massillon Jackson H.S.), had 10 points this season, on three goals and a team-leading four assists. His goal and point totals ranked him third on the Falcons in each category. Baraldi played in 17 of the Falcons' 19 matches this season, starting 16.
Baraldi had three assists and five points, the highest single-game totals by a MAC player this year to date, in BG's 8-0 dismantling of IPFW at Cochrane Field. He assisted on each of the team's first three goals of the night and converted a penalty kick vs. the Mastodons. Baraldi also had goals vs. Marshall and Davidson, and his other assist came on freshman Joe Sullivan's game-winning goal at Buffalo.
Baraldi has reached double digits in scoring in each of his first three years at BGSU. He has 47 career points in 54 games as a Falcon, with 14 goals and 19 assists for the Brown and Orange.
Comiskey, who hails from Grantville, Pa. (Northern Lebanon H.S.), led the Falcons in scoring, with six goals and 13 points. He also added an assist. Comiskey recorded those 13 points in just 570 minutes on the season, as he played in 18 of BG's 19 matches, coming off the bench in all but four of those contests.
Comiskey had three of the Falcons' six goals in MAC play, leading the Brown and Orange in goals and points (six) despite playing in only five of the six MAC matches. Last week, he exploded for four goals in two games. He had the first two-goal game of his career vs. IPFW, then had two more goals three days later at West Virginia. Comiskey scored the Falcons' first two goals of the night in a 3-3 draw vs. the Mountaineers. For his efforts, Comiskey shared MAC Player-of-the-Week honors on Monday (Nov. 11), then was named the MAC's Male Scholar Athlete of the Week on Wednesday (Nov. 13).
In addition to his four-goal explosion last week, Comiskey had a goal in the Falcons' season-opening win over Malone, and scored BG's goal in a 1-1 tie vs. Hartwick. He assisted on senior Joey D'Agostino's tying goal in another 1-1 draw at Cochrane Field, vs. Michigan. Comiskey finished his BG career with totals of 12 goals, four assists and 28 points in 67 matches. He scored two goals in each of his first three seasons before matching his previous career total with the six goals this year.
Silva, a native of Columbus, Ohio (Worthington Kilbourne H.S.), six points on two goals and a pair of assists, tying him for third on the team in assists and fourth in both goals and points. He was one of just three Falcons to start all 19 matches, and he played in 1846 of the team's 1866 minutes on the year.
Both of Silva's assists came in conference matches, as he had helpers on Comiskey's goal vs. Hartwick and senior Ryan Snashall's game-tying goal late in regulation at West Virginia. His goals came against Malone and IPFW in a pair of wins at Cochrane.
Silva, a three-year BGSU tri-captain, had 17 points in his BG career, on six goals and five assists. He started 74 matches during his four years at BGSU, missing just one match, due to injury. Earlier this month, he was named to the Capital One Academic All-District Team. Silva, in his first semester in graduate school at BGSU, had a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade-point average during his undergraduate career.
Wiest, a Naperville, Ill. (North H.S.) product, also started every match this season, and played every second of all 19 matches. He had eight shutouts, the highest total by a BGSU goalkeeper since 1998, and also had 75 saves, a goals-against average of just 0.82 and a saves percentage of .815.
In MAC play, Wiest had a pair of shutouts, an even .800 saves pct. and a GAA of 0.91. His MAC shutouts came vs. Northern Illinois at home and Buffalo on the road, and he also blanked Malone, Ohio State, Northern Kentucky, Davidson, Wright State and IPFW. Wiest had a season-high eight saves in that clean sheet at Davidson, and he made seven stops vs. both Michigan and Michigan State.
Wiest finished his career with 21 total shutouts, and became the first Falcon 'keeper with at least six shutouts in three-straight seasons since BGSU Hall of Famer Scott Vallow in the late 1990s. He also had career totals of 20 wins, 218 saves, a GAA of 0.98 and a saves pct. of .804. Wiest played every second of every match as both a junior and senior, as the last time a 'keeper other than Wiest was between the posts was on Nov. 5, 2011.
Akron's 10 all-league honorees included nine All-MAC First-Team selections, as well as one additional player named to the all-league second team. UA's Aodhan Quinn was voted the MAC's Player of the Year, while Buffalo's Russell Cicerone was named the league's Newcomer of the Year. Hartwick's John Scott was named the Gary V. Palmisano MAC Coach of the Year. The latter award is named after the former BGSU coach.
The Falcons ended the season with an overall mark of 6-7-6 and a MAC record of 2-2-2. BGSU tied with WVU for fourth place in the final MAC regular-season standings, but the Mountaineers earned the fourth and final berth in the MAC Tournament field. Nichols and his coaching staff had a total of 10 seniors on the 2013 roster.
