Softball Set To Play Six Games In Three Days
March 04, 2013 | Softball
East Tennessee State | Eastern Kentucky | Western Kentucky
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Bowling Green State University will play six games over the next three days, starting with a doubleheader against East Tennessee State on Monday March 4. The Falcons we're scheduled to play ETSU and Morehead State this past weekend as part of the Buccaneer Challenge, but all games we're called due to snowfall. The first pitch of the doubleheader is set for 2 p.m.
The second stop on Bowling Green's three-day road trip is Richmond, Ky., where the Falcons take on the Colonels of Eastern Kentucky University. Bowling Green is 2-1 all time against EKU, including a sweep (5-2, 6-1) of the Colonels at Meserve Field last season. Jamie Kertes and Paris Imholz both picked up a win in the series, with Imholz also recording her sixth save of the year in game one. Erika Stratton led the Falcons with a .750 batting average in the series, collecting three hits in four at bats. Paige Berger collected the only extra-base hits, hitting a double and a home run for a team-best five RBI.
The Falcons are right back on the road Wednesday, March 6, facing off against Western Kentucky University for a third-straight doubleheader. Bowling Green is 1-2 in the all-time series with the Hilltoppers, most recently losing by a score of 5-1 in the Hilltopper Classic last February. Katie Yoho led the Orange and Brown with two hits in the contest, while Andrea Arney collected the only RBI with a solo home run. Imholz was credited with the loss, giving up four runs (one earned) in 5.2 innings with three strikeouts.
The Snow Cometh - Games Added
The Falcons have had a string of bad luck to start the 2013 season, as nine of Bowling Green's games have already been cancelled due to snow fall. The Falcons have been able to pick up some games along the way, including a 1-0 win over Youngstown State on Feb. 23. In addition to the Falcons' added doubleheader with East Tennessee State on Monday, Bowling Green will now face off against Evansville in a doubleheader on Friday March, 8 in an attempt to make up some games.
Undefeated
Sophomore Paris Imholz has started strong this season, posting a 2-0 record with a complete game and eight strikeouts to go along with a 1.68 ERA. Imholz also recorded a save earlier last month, tying the Falcons' all-time saves record (8). Imholz was named to the All-MAC Freshman Team last season.
Five Games In
The Falcons have only played in five games this season, earning a record 3-2 in that span. In the first five games of last year Bowling Green was 2-3, eventually going on to a 36-22 overall record, one of the best in program history.
