Softball Gears Up For Spring Break Stretch

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Bowling Green State University softball team starts the second leg of its spring break road trip on Friday, facing off against the University of Evansville in a doubleheader at 3 p.m. Friday marks the first ever meeting between the programs.
The Falcons will then start Evansville Tournament play, taking on Southeast Missouri State at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 9. Bowling Green then takes on Murray State on back-to-back days, with game one starting at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. The final day of the Evansville Tournament features two separate rematches, with the Falcons taking on Murray State at 10 a.m. and Southeast Missouri State at 12 p.m. This weekend marks the first ever meeting withSoutheast Missouri State, and just the second ever meeting with Murray State. The Falcons are 1-0 all-time against Murray State, winning their only meeting in 2012, 6-4.
Stratton Getting Hot
Junior Erika Stratton has been on fire the past four games, collecting four hits in eight appearances for a .500 batting average. Stratton now leads the Falcons with a .353 batting average this season, also ranking first on Bowling Green with six RBI in 2013. Stratton finished last year with a .181 batting average, collecting just 10 RBI and 21 hits.
The First
Sophomore Chloe Giordano hit a home run in the Falcons' 8-6 win over Western Kentucky on Wednesday, marking the first homer of her career. Giordano has also been on fire as of late, hitting .300 with three RBI, a double and seven total bases in the past four games.
On The Bases
The Falcons have been nearly perfect on the base paths this season, stealing nine bases on 10 attempts. Seniors Paige Berger and Hannah Fulk lead Bowling Green, each going 3-for-3 on steal attempts. Junior Katie Yoho and sophomore Shelby Fink are also perfect so far, going 1-for-1 and 2-for-2, respectively. Freshman Jessica Gregg is the only Falcon to be caught stealing in 2013, going 0-for-1 on the season.
Continuing To Shine
Sophomore Paris Imholz has been fantastic so far in the young season, earning a record of 4-1 in eight appearances. Imholz has two complete-game shutouts this season, helping her earn a team-best 1.37 ERA. Imholz also leads the Falcons with 17 strikeouts and 30.2 innings pitched. Imholz ranked second on Bowling Green with 81 strikeouts last season, trailing Jamie Kertes' total of 146 in 2012.
Different Inning Different Story
The Falcons have earned a record of 5-4 this season, all while being outscored, 34-23 on the year. The first inning has been the worst for Bowling Green, with the Falcons allowing 14 runs in the opening frame. However, the Falcons rebound with their two best scoring innings, crossing home six times in the second and five times in the third. Bowling Green recently had its best inning of the season against Western Kentucky, scoring five runs in the second frame of an 8-6 win over the Hilltoppers. Eight runs also marks the highest total number of runs the Falcons have scored this season. The most runs the Falcons scored last
season was 15, coming in a win over NIU on April 27.
