Falcons Remain Tied For Fifth After 54 Holes at MAC Championships

The Bowling Green State University men's golf team will remain in a tie for fifth following 54 holes of action at the Mid-American Conference Championships. The three-day event is being played at Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport Ohio.
BGSU fired a team total of 310 on Saturday, the same total they shot to open the tournament. The Orange and Brown currently have a 54-hole team score of 919.
Individually the Falcons were led by Chris Melvin on Saturday. The junior opened his round with a triple-bogey on the first hole and a bogey on the second, but played the final 16 holes at 2-under par, including a stretch of three consecutive birdies on holes 10-12. Melvin will begin play on Sunday tied for 31st (235).
Ryan Triller, like Melvin, got off to a rocky beginning. The first-year Falcon was 5-over after just two holes, but played par golf from the third hole on. Triller is currently tied for ninth (224).
Other Saturday scores included Wes Gates (79), Charlie Olson (80) and Joe Cooper (81). Olson is tied for 24th (233), followed by Gates, who is tied for 31st (235) and Joe Cooper (236, 34th).
Kent State continues to lead the Championship (878), followed by Toledo (896), Ball State (899), Akron (902), Eastern Michigan (919), BGSU (919), Miami (923), Ohio (941) and Northern Illinois (942).
Sunday's play will begin, starting at 7:50 a.m.. BGSU will hit the course starting at 8:40 a.m.
