August 13, 2013 | General
Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University Athletics Department is inviting all Bowling Green residents and businesses, BGSU students and BGSU campus offices to help "Paint The Town Orange and Brown" for the Aug. 29 home opener against Tulsa.
BGSU Athletics is sponsoring a contest and invites everyone to decorate their home, office or dorm room in Orange and Brown. The best-decorated in each category will be recognized on the video board at the home opener and receive various prizes.
"The football home opener is one of the biggest days of the year and Aug. 29 will be a great night!", Mary Ellen Gillespie, Associate Athletics Director for External Relations, said. "From people decorating their homes, to give-aways in town, to special appearances by the football team around town, everyone is getting pumped to kick off the season and beat Tulsa."
Beginning Aug. 15, BGSU Athletics will be giving away orange light bulbs at the BGSU Ticket Office. These light bulbs can be picked up until Aug. 22 and the department is asking fans to replace their porch and other outdoor lightbulbs with the orange ones through the home opener. When picking up light bulbs, fans are also able to purchase tickets for the home opener against Tulsa for just $6.
BGSU businesses and residents, along with BGSU campus offices and students, can register for judging of their decorations by using the hashtag #PaintTheTown on Twitter or Facebook and submitting a photo, or by online questionnaire, which will be made available to fans. Fans must follow BGSU Athletics on Facebook or Twitter to enter via social media.
Starting Aug. 22, judging will begin on registered displays. A panel of judges will view photos submitted online via Twitter and Facebook. The field will then be narrowed for in-person judging and winners will be announced Aug. 25.
"We are so excited about the Paint The Town campaign," Gillespie said. "The feedback we have received from the community has been very positive and this is an excellent opportunity to collaborate, show Falcon Spirit, cheer on the Falcons and have fun as a city and University community. The Chamber, Downtown BG and the Visitor's Bureau have all been great partners in this initiative."
