August 19, 2013 | Men's Soccer
Baraldi, Grant, James, Sikich & Wiest all listed on first team; Genrich, Schewee & Silva accorded second-team honors
A veritable plethora of Bowling Green State University men's soccer student-athletes have been named to the College Sports Madness Preseason All-Mid-American Conference Team. The team was announced by College Sports Madness on Monday (Aug. 19).
The Falcons had a total of five players listed to the first team, tied with the University of Akron for the most players selected. BG's total of eight overall players named to the team was the highest of any MAC school.
Seniors Anthony Grant, Sean Sikich and Michael Wiest, junior Danny Baraldi and sophomore Ryan James all were named to the Preseason All-MAC First Team by the web site, while seniors Zach Schewee and Brandon Silva and sophomore Jake Genrich earned second-team honors.
Head coach Eric Nichols and the Falcons return a total of 13 letterwinners, including nine starters, from last year's club. The 2012 team finished with an overall record of 8-9-3 and a MAC mark of 3-3-1. BGSU tied for fourth in the league regular-season standings last fall.
The 2013 team will host the University of Cincinnati in an exhibition at Cochrane Field on Saturday night (Aug. 24). Then, the Falcons prepare for the start of the regular season, as BG will host a pair of matches over Labor Day weekend. The Brown and Orange will host Malone University on Aug. 30 and the University of Michigan on Sept. 2. All home matches begin at 7:00 p.m. at Cochrane, and admission is free.
