BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Coming off one of their most successful seasons in recent history, the Bowling Green State University women's golf team enter the 2013-14 season ready to continue the success that was built from a year ago.
It was only five months ago that the Orange and Brown placed sixth in the MAC Championships, marking their best finish in ten years. The women also ended the tournament with a team score of 957, a school record for scores recorded during the MAC Championships.
In fact, the Falcons found success throughout the year, earning their first victory in four years at the Cleveland State invitational (630). BGSU's success didn't stop, the Falcons earned yet another victory in their very next event, the Butler Fall Invitational. (630).
Young also guided the Orange and Brown to a team stroke average of 311.26, shattering the previous-best average (318.25) by nearly a whopping eight-stroke difference.
Young also saw success individually, as then junior Bailey Arnold set a new school record with a 77.87 average, the first sub-78.00 average in BGSU history. Â In all, there were six players on the 2012-13 team that had a per-round average of under 79.
The Falcons will look to have the same success when they open its 2013 fall campaign this weekend (Sept. 8-9) at the Redbird Invitational in Normal, Ill., hosted by Illinois State University. The 54-hole event will take place at Weibring Golf Club.
Young will feature 10 players on the roster, including two seniors, two juniors, four sophomores and two freshman.
Top on the list is Arnold. Arnold, who will be playing as an individual, has a 79.05 career scoring average. Arnold had eight top-20 finishes and six finishes in the top six, on her way to averaging a record 77.87 in the 2012-13 campaign.
Young will also showcase junior Patrica Holt and sophomore Lily Bartell, who both competed in the 113th United States Amateur Championship at the Country Club of Charleston a month ago.
Young's lineup for the Redbird Invitational will be Bartell (78.83), Hannah Lewis (79.71), Holt (78.95), Shelby Wilson (78.65), and Mikayla Baer.
Live scoring will be available closer to the start of the tournament.

Weibring Golf Club
The Weibring Golf Club at Illinois State University was designed in 1962 by golf course architect Robert Bruce Harris. It was originally designed with a regulation length 9 hole course along the outside edges of the property with a shorter executive length 9 hole course in the middle. The course opened in May 1964 with University President Robert Bone hitting the first shot.

Today the 6,915 yard, par 71 golf course accommodates approximately 28,000 rounds per year and will host more than 100 tournaments and outings. These events include Men's and Women's Intercollegiate Athletics, State Champion Boys and Girls University High School home tournaments, the COUNTRY Youth Classic, the Illinois High School Association Boy's State Final, and many fundraisers for local charities and scholarship groups
