Ball State and Xavier round out the four-team field, and the tournament is utilizing a hidden-dual format. On Friday, the Falcons competed in doubles against BSU and UC, while taking on XU in singles action.
"I was very proud of the way the girls fought and competed today," said BGSU head coach Olga Elkin. "When we played Xavier a month ago we got blown off the court. Today, three matches went to third-set tiebreakers and we had chances in the other three matches. Overall, I saw a ton of improvement from each and every girl."
Plaszewski was one of the Falcons who saw her match go to a tiebreaker. The sophomore won her opening set over XU's Lauren Ghidotti by a 6-3 score at the number-four flight, only to see her opponent rally for a 6-4 win in the second set. The pair battled through a tight tiebreaker, with Plaszewski emerging on top by an 11-9 result.
Freshmen Maddy Adams and Megan Miller also saw their matches go to a third-set 'breaker. Adams split a pair of 6-4 sets with XU's Sydney Liggins at the top singles flight, before Liggins eked out a 10-8 win in the tiebreaker. At flight number five, Miller won a 6-2 opening set against her Xavier foe, but dropped a narrow 6-4 second set, before falling by a 10-6 count in the tiebreaker.
In doubles play, Miller teamed with Drayton for an 8-6 win against Cincinnati at the second doubles flight. That duo lost an 8-5 outcome against Ball State. Adams competed with sophomore Harley Hutchison at the top doubles flight on Friday, with that team dropping a pair of closely-contested matches, including an 8-6 result vs. BSU. Plaszewski and freshman Emily Witt comprised BGSU's third-flight doubles team.
The UC Invitational concludes on Saturday, with the Falcons slated to face XU in doubles and both UC and BSU in singles. Action is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m.
