Bowling Green, Ohio – After a three week hiatus from competition, the Bowling Green State University men's golf team will return to action this Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 27-28, at the Quail Valley Intercollegiate hosted by McNeese State University in Vero Beach, Fla.
The Quail Valley Intercollegiate is in just its second season as a collegiate event and is held at the par-72, 7,460-yards Quail Valley Golf Club, which was designed by Tom Fazio and Nick Price. The tournament will consists of two rounds, 54 holes of play, on Monday and a final 18 holes of play on Tuesday.
The tournament field this season includes Arizona, Bowling Green, Houston Baptist, Jacksonville, Kentucky, Louisiana-Monroe, McNeese State, Michigan State, North Dakota State, North Florida, Rice, Stephen F. Austin, TCU, Tennessee and Connecticut.
The Falcons will field a very familiar team in Jose Narro, Brett Rinker, Cameron Michalak, Joe Cooper and Ryan Triller.
Narro, who has been the top-Falcon golfer in three of the four tournaments this season, has a team-low scoring average of 73.67 on the year and a total of three top-25 place finishes. The sophomore, who has posted three subpar rounds of golf this fall, is coming off rounds of 78, 72 and 76 at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate in early October.
Rinker will be teeing off in his fifth tournament for the Falcons this fall, having played in every event for BGSU this year. The sophomore is second on the team with a stroke average of 75.33 on the season and registered a low round 71 at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational to open the season. Last time out, Rinker finished with a 54-hole score of 224, using rounds of 77, 72 and 75 to finish in a tie for 41st-place overall.
Michalak returns to the lineup for the second straight tournament, as he turned in rounds of 77, 75 and 77 three weeks ago at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate on Oct. 6-7. The combined 54-hole score of 229 at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate was the second lowest combined three-round score for the freshman on the season, only four strokes more than his 54-hole score of 225 at his intercollegiate debut at the Marshall Invitational in early September.
Cooper will be playing in his second straight event and fourth overall for the fall season, as the senior has carded a stroke average of 77.56 overall on the year. The lefty, who has carded a low round 71 this fall season, is coming off rounds of 77, 78 and 74 at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate on Oct. 6-7.
Like Cooper, Triller is also playing in his fourth event of the 2014 fall season. The senior, who has recorded all nine rounds in the 70's thus far this season, has turned in 54-hole scores of 226, 225 and 226 in his three events this season. Overall he enters play this week with a stroke average of 75.22 on the year and a low round 73, which he has done three times.
The event will start with a 9 a.m. shotgun start on Monday morning. The Falcons will start on holes 15-18.
