Freshman Spotlight: Kohl Taberner
October 09, 2014 | Men's Cross Country
Bowling Green, Ohio -- Over the course of the season, BGSU Athletic Communications will introduce three freshmen runners from the women's cross country team and three from the men's team. The second of this three-part segment will spotlight Kohl Taberner.
Taberner was the 2013 Northern Lakes League (NLL) cross country champion in 2013 and the runner-up the previous year. The Holland, Ohio native competed for Springfield High School and earned 10 varsity letters in cross country, track and field and swimming. Taberner helped his team climb from last in the NLL as a freshman to league champions as a senior.
In his first collegiate race at the Toledo Invite, Taberner placed second on the team and 13th overall, running a personal best 16:20.10. At the All-Ohio Championships Oct. 3, he finished first on the team (100/569 overall) with a time of 26:30.02 in his first 8K with BGSU.
"I thought (All-Ohios) was a breakout performace for me," Taberner said. "It was my first ever 8K and I went much faster than my expectations. I'm looking to keep dropping time throughout the season and by MACs I hope to be under 26 minutes."
