SAAC Completes Successful Event To Combat Hunger
December 02, 2014 | General
The Bowling Green State University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has just concluded their month-long campaign to combat hunger in the local communities with its Falcons Fighting Hunger initiative. The goal of the program is not only to get the campus and local community involved, but also to educate the community on how severe the food shortage is in the Bowling Green area.
Donation bins were set up 60 minutes prior to all of the Bowling Green home athletic events and in the Office of Student-Athlete Services during the month of November.

Participants who donated to Falcons Fighting Hunger received a voucher for reduced ticket prices and a free popcorn or soda courtesy of Sodexo.
"I am really excited about the results of our Falcons Fighting Hunger campaign this year benefitting the BG Christian Food Pantry because it gives us as student-athletes the opportunity to give back and interact with our community," BGSU SAAC President Carmen Young said. "This is one of SAAC's biggest events of the year and we are so thankful for everyone who volunteered and contributed to this cause!"
Â
This year, our student-athletes and the Bowling Green community together raised $914 and collected 352 cans of nonperishable food items which will be given to the BG Christian Food Pantry. Since August, the Bowling Green State University student-athletes have completed over 1,000 hours of community service. Whether it's the food drive or other service efforts, our student-athletes are truly making a difference in Bowling Green.
"The relationship between BGSU Athletics and the BG Christian Food Pantry is fantastic," Shirley Woessner, the Director of the BG Christian Food Pantry, said. "Bowling Green State University student-athletes have personalities that match no other and their efforts in Falcons Fighting Hunger are very much appreciated."
SAAC is a student-run organization comprised of representatives from each varsity team at BGSU. SAAC strives to promote personal, academic, career, and athletic development through a variety of programs and initiatives, including the annual Falcons Fighting Hunger food drive, collaboration with Special Olympics, Networking Night, and many other opportunities for student-athletes.
