Falcons Name Captains For 2014 Season

Emily McClelland, Erika Stratton and Katie Yoho will serve as captains for the Orange and Brown in 2014.

BOWLING GREEN – With opening pitch from the circle just four days away, the Bowling Green State University softball program has named their 2014 captains for the upcoming season. Eighth year head coach Shannon Salsburg has allotted seniors Erika Stratton and Katie Yoho and junior Emily McClelland to serve as the Falcons' leaders on the diamond.
Stratton, a right-handed catcher from Las Vegas, Nev., made 50 starts behind the plate for the Orange and Brown, and played in all 51 games. Stratton ranked third on the 2013 roster with a .274 batting average, collecting 37 hits in 135 at bats. She also ranked third on the team with a .351 on-base percentage, while her .407 slugging percentage ranked fourth on the team. Stratton also posted nine extra base hits, three doubles, three home runs and a team-best three triples for 55 total bases. Overall, in three seasons, Stratton owns a .232 batting average with 84 hits, 17 doubles, four triples, eight home runs
and 40 RBI.
Yoho, a right-handed outfielder from Grove City, Ohio, also appeared in all 51 games for the Falcons, making her one of only four position players to start every game. Yoho ranked fourth on the team with a .235 batting average, picking up 38 hits in 162 at bats. Yoho led the Orange and Brown with 29 RBI and eight home runs, as she added four doubles and a triple for 68 total bases. She also added eight stolen bases in 10 attempts and ranked second on the team with 20 runs scored. Overall, in three seasons, Yoho has a .263 batting average with 111 hits, 13 doubles, four triples, 20 home runs and 76 RBI.
McClelland, a versatile utility player from Union Grove, Wis., appeared in 47 games for the Orange and Brown in 2013. McClelland made 36 starts at second base. She had her first career home run and first career triple in her sophomore campaign. McClelland also ranked third on the team with 77 assist, and second on the team with five sacrifice hits.
