Falcons’ Brett Rinker Named to Frank Fuhrer III Watch List

Pennsylvania – Bowling Green State University and Pennsylvania native Brett Rinker was recently named to the 2013-14 Frank Fuhrer III Collegiate Player of the Year Award Watch List by the Western Pennsylvania Golf Association (WPGA).
Rinker, who hails from Slippery Rock, Pa., has had a strong freshman for BGSU, as he leads the team with a 73.41 stroke average on the season having played 27 rounds. He has played in all 10 events thus far this season for the Falcons and has posted five top-15 finishes, four of which came in the top-10, including a season-best fourth-place finish at the Greenbrier Collegiate Invitational.
Rinker registered a season-low round 67 at the Old Dominion/Outer Banks Collegiate in the fall and has totaled four sub-par rounds on the year, including a 68 at the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational and a 69 at the Rutherford Intercollegiate which was held at the Penn State Blue Course in State College, Pa.
Now in its 13th year, the Fuhrer Award is designated to recognize outstanding golf performance from a collegiate player that hails from Western Pennsylvania.
The 2013-2014 collegiate golf season includes the following players on the Fuhrer Award watch list: Ian Bangor, Senior (Carnegie Mellon), William Betts, Sophomore (Hartford), Garrett Browning (Robert Morris), Brett Rinker, Freshman (Bowling Green), Darren Simons, Sophomore (St. Bonaventure) and Joshua Stauffer, Sophomore (St. Bonaventure).
The Fuhrer Award is named in honor of Frank Fuhrer III. Now a businessman in Pittsburgh, Mr. Fuhrer's accomplishments on the golf course include being named All-American at University of North Carolina Chapel Hill from 1979-1981, All ACC 1979-1981, named to the 1981 USGA Walker Cup team, winner of the 1981 Western Amateur and the winner of 11 Western Pennsylvania Golf Association Championships. Mr. Fuhrer was the No. 2 ranked Amateur in the United States in 1981 and is one of the leading supporters of the WPGA.
