July 16, 2014 | Women's Golf
Pinehurst, N.C. - Bowling Green State University rising junior Lily Bartell of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, wrapped up play at the 112th North & South Women's Amateur Championship on Wednesday, July 16th, at the Pinehurst No. 8 Golf Course at the Pinehurst Country Club in Pinehurst, N.C.
"Although Lily's scores were short of expectations for the week, she gained much experience throughout the week. This is the beauty of golf! It is a lot like life- it sheds light on your strengths, exposes your weaknesses, gives you experience through the process, and fuels you with the desire and drive to move forward a more complete player," stated BGSU head women's golf coach Stephanie Young. "Lily is a hard worker and a fiery competitor. She understands the big picture. We are proud of her for representing BGSU in a first class manner! "
Bartell played a total of 36-holes over the first two days of the event, carding a first round 85, +14, and a second round 89, +18, for a combined two round score of 174, +32, to miss the cut.
A total of 63 players made the cut after the first two rounds of play and will now compete for the 16 player match play field and medalist honors over the final two days of play. The top-16 players who qualify for match play will play two rounds until a champion is determined.
