USGA Championship: U.S. Amateur Championship Scoring
Atlanta, Ga. – Bowling Green State University men's golfer Jose Narro opened up play on Wednesday morning in a 17-player playoff for the last four remaining spots to make the cut and advance to the match play stage of the 2014 U.S. Amateur Championship at the Atlanta Athletic Club in Johns Creek, Ga.
Teeing-off as part of the third playoff group along with Derron Peyton, Cory Gaylord and Caleb Sturgeon, Narro sunk a 25-foot birdie putt from the fringe on the first hole to post a birdie.
With his opening hole birdie, Narro was one of only six golfers to move on to the second playoff hole.
On the second hole, the rising sophomore got to the green on two shots, but three putted from 90 feet out to fall out of the field and have his tournament appearance come to an end.
"Even though I'm disappointed of not getting into match play, it was still a good tournament," commented Narro. "I will carry all this momentum into the fall season."
"It was such a great experience for Jose. He got to meet so many great players, coaches and other very important people in the golf world," stated BGSU men's golf head coach Kevin Farrell. "Unfortunately he fell one par short on the last playoff hole, but that's golf. This will give him great momentum for this upcoming fall."
Narro and the BGSU men's golf team will open up its 2014 fall slate in less than a month, as the Falcons will tee-off at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational on September 8-9 in Huntington, West Virginia.
