BGSU Battlebine Wins Combine Derby In Dramatic Fashion
August 06, 2014 | General
"I want to say a big thanks to everyone who came out and supported me," David said. "I couldn't believe it when I was approached by (Athletics Director) Chris Kingston for BGSU to sponsor me. It was really neat and everyone was great to work with. I'd definitely do it again."
David quickly found trouble in the BGSU Battlebine and was relegated to the consolation round, needing to finish in the top two to earn a trip to the championship. He survived the round to qualify for the championship but was hit late, breaking the drive belt on the combine.
He and his team had three minutes to complete a repair job that typically takes 10 minutes, but the crew came through. An experienced two-time defending champion, David was able to dominate in the championship round and came away with the victory.
"(Senior Associate Athletics Director) Kit Hughes did a great job of co-branding BGSU with a championship team in Kyle David and crew," Kingston said. "Kyle and his team exhibited great Falcon spirit by fighting through adversity and winning for the third straight year. I personally enjoyed watching the event with thousands of other Wood County residents as Falcon Athletics prepares for a special year in the classroom, in competition and in the community."
