LAST TIME OUT: FLYNN'S LATE GOAL LIFTS FALCONS PAST NKU, 2-1
Sophomore Pat Flynn scored with just over five minutes left, giving the Falcons a 2-1 win over visiting Northern Kentucky Friday night (Sept. 12). Freshman Brad Macomber had the first three-point game of his young career, scoring the Falcons' first goal and assisting on Flynn's winner. Senior tri-captain Danny Baraldi also had an assist on Flynn's goal, and redshirt soph Nick Landsberger made two saves in the win. Much more information about the NKU match can be found on the web at BGSUFalcons.com.

GOOD START
BGSU's 4-1-0 start to the season is the team's best since 2011, when the Brown and Orange also went 4-1-0 to begin the year. No BG team has had a better five-game start to a season since the 1996 Falcons began with a 4-0-1 mark en route to a final record of 18-4-1 and a trip to the NCAA Tournament.
FASCINATING FALCON FACTS
• The Falcons have won four consecutive home matches, and BGSU is undefeated in five-straight games at Cochrane Field dating to last season. The Falcons' last four-game home winning streak came in the 2012 campaign, and the last five-match home unbeaten streak was in 2007, as BG went 3-0-2 at Cochrane to end the regular season that fall.
• Northern Kentucky's goal on Friday night snapped a home shutout streak of 410:48 for the Falcons. BG had not surrendered a goal at Cochrane Field since the first half of last season's Hartwick game (Oct. 26, 2013).
• Sophomore Pat Flynn has nine goals and 20 points through five games this season. No BG player scored more than 13 points during all of last year. Two years ago (2012), Anthony Grant led the Falcons with 20 points over the entire season.
• No BGSU player has had more than nine goals and 20 points since the 2009 campaign, when Cameron Hepple had 10 goals and 21 points for the Falcons. Hepple played in only 12 matches that season due to injury.
• Flynn has scored at least one goal in four of the Falcons' five matches this season. In the Duquesne match, the only game in which he has been held scoreless, Flynn drilled a shot off the crossbar in the first overtime.
• Senior Danny Baraldi's assist on Friday evening was the 20th of his BGSU career. Baraldi has 54 career points in 59 matches, on 17 goals and those 20 assists. He is just two assists and five points away from moving into the school's career top 10 in those categories.
• Freshman Brad Macomber had the first three-point game of his career, figuring in the scoring of both BG goals in the win over NKU. Macomber now has five points this year, on two goals and an assist. He has scored a goal in back-to-back home games, having also found the back of the net in the Sept. 2 win over Findlay.
• The Falcons have scored 18 goals this season to date, after scoring a total of 25 during all of last season. This year's club has scored at least two goals in each of the five games.
• Sophomore Jacob Roth has five assists this fall. No BG player had more than four assists during all of last season.
ABOUT THE FALCONS
The Falcons' overall record of 4-1-0 includes marks of 3-0 at home, 0-1 on the road and 1-0 in neutral-site matches to date. BGSU has outscored opponents by a 20-4 margin over the first five games.
Sophomore Pat Flynn leads the Falcons – and the nation – with nine goals and 20 points. Flynn also has a pair of assists, and three of his goals have been game winners.
Senior Danny Baraldi and sophomore Joe Sullivan each have seven points on three goals and an assist this fall. Freshman Brad Macomber, redshirt sophomore Max Auden and true soph Jacob Roth have five points apiece. Roth leads the team with five assists, while Auden and junior Ryan James have three each.
In goal, redshirt sophomore Nick Landsberger has started all five games, and has two complete-match shutouts, 15 saves and a goals-against average of 0.86. Redshirt soph Ryan Heuton has played in one match, having worked a scoreless 45 minutes against Findlay.
Head coach Eric Nichols and his staff lost 10 seniors off of last year's team, which went 6-7-6 overall and 2-2-2 in MAC play. The 2013 team tied for fourth in the conference.
Nichols and his staff – Eric Reed, Zach Lemke and Brandon Silva – have utilized the same starting lineup for all five matches this season to date. That lineup has included Auden, Baraldi, Flynn, James, Landsberger, Roth, Sullivan, seniors Jon Kumher and Vlad Lekarev and juniors Jake Genrich and Jake Martin.
SCOUTING THE WOLVERINES
Michigan will enter Tuesday's match with a record of 1-2-1 on the young season, and the Wolverines are 0-0-1 in Big Ten Conference play after a 1-1 draw vs. #12 Maryland on Friday (Sept. 12). U-M has defeated SMU and lost to Florida International and Columbia this season to date, with the Columbia match the only contest the Wolverines have played away from home. Redshirt junior Colin McAtee leads the team with two goals and four points, while junior James Murphy and senior Marcos Ugarte have three points each. In goal, fifth-year senior Adam Grinwis and freshman Evan Louro have split time. Grinwis has seven saves and a goals-against average of 0.90, while Louro has five stops, one shutout and a 1.50 GAA. Head coach Chaka Daley returned eight starters from last year's team that went 8-7-3 overall and 3-3-0 in the Big Ten.
A LOOK AT THE PANTHERS
Eastern Illinois will enter Friday's match at Cochrane Field with a 2-3-0 record, after a 2-1 loss on the road against Western Michigan Sunday (Sept. 14). The Panthers' record includes wins over St. Francis (Ill.) and Culver-Stockton, and losses to Lipscomb and Central Arkansas this fall. Senior Jake Brillhart leads the team with three goals, two assists and eight points, while both sophomore Davis Wegmann and freshman Dominic Recca have five points, including two goals. In goal, freshman Mike Novotny and redshirt sophomore Ben Feltes each have played exactly 225 minutes. Novotny has seven saves and a GAA of 1.20, while Feltes has four stops and a 1.60 GAA. Mark Hansen is in his first season as head coach of the Panthers. He has 17 letterwinners, including nine starters, back from last year's team that finished 1-14-2 overall and 1-4-1 in the Summit League.
THE SERIES
BGSU trails Michigan, 6-4-1, in the all-time series between the teams, but the Falcons are unbeaten in the last three meetings. Last year, Joey D'Agostino's goal late in the second half lifted the Brown and Orange to a 1-1 draw at Cochrane Field (Sept. 2, 2013). The previous two years had seen BG win back-to-back matchups by identical 2-0 scores, including a victory in the Falcons' last trip to Ann Arbor (Oct. 23, 2012). Ryan James scored the Falcons' second goal of that win. Three seasons ago, Danny Baraldi scored the game-winner in his first collegiate match in BG's win at Cochrane (Aug. 26, 2011). That win snapped a six-game U-M series winning streak, a streak in which the Wolverines scored at least four goals five times. BGSU is 2-1-1 in home games, 2-5-0 in road matches and 2-2-1 against U-M in the Eric Nichols Era.
BGSU leads Eastern Illinois, 2-1-1, in that series, and the teams are meeting for the first time in eight years. The Falcons picked up wins in the 1996 and '97 seasons, and BG and EIU battled to a 1-1 draw in a tournament in Green Bay, Wis., in 2005. The following year, the Panthers downed the Brown and Orange, 2-1, at BGSU's Falcon Classic (Aug. 27, 2006). BG is 1-1-0 in home matches, 1-0-0 on the road and 0-0-1 in neutral-site matches vs. EIU.
A list of the Falcons' match-by-match results against BG's upcoming opponents can always be found in the right column.
THE FALCON 400
BGSU's season-opening win over IUPUI was the 400th victory in program history. Heading into the Michigan match, BGSU now has an all-time record of 403-344-78 since the inception of the varsity program under Mickey Cochrane in 1965. Cochrane was at the field bearing his name for the IUPUI match, and a host of former BGSU men's soccer greats were in town as well for the program's Alumni Weekend festivities, which included the IUPUI contest as well as a golf outing the following day. Nearly 400 letterwinners (374 entering the 2014 season) have played a part in helping the Falcons surpass that 400-victory plateau.
