Bowling Green, Ohio – For just their second fall event this season, the Bowling Green State University men's golf team will head to the Haig Point Golf Course at Daufuskie Island near Hilton Head Island, S.C. for the Rees Jones Intercollegiate on Sept. 21-23.
The three-day, 54-hole event, will be held at Haig Point at the par-72, 7,380-yards Jones Signature Course on Daufuskie Island. The tournament will consist of 11 teams in Bowling Green, Charleston Southern, Campbell, East Carolina, Elon, Kennesaw State, Presbyterian College, Towson, USC Upstate, Winthrop and host UNC-Wilmington.
Coming off a seventh-place finish two weeks ago at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational on Sept. 8-9, head coach Kevin Farrell will once again send a young lineup out to the first tee for the Falcons headlined by the sophomore duo of Jose Narro and Brett Rinker. Freshmen Cameron Michalak and Mitchell Kontak, as well as senior Joe Cooper, will join the Falcons lineup for the three-day event.
Narro is coming off a dominating performance at the Marshall Invitational in which he posted rounds of 69, 66 and 71 to take first-place overall with a combined 54-hole score of 206, -7 under par. Narro, who won the tournament by three shots, carded a career-low round of 66, -5 under par, over the second round of play to help him tie his career-low 54-hole score of 206.
Rinker saw his play improve over his three rounds of play last time out, as the sophomore followed back-to-back rounds of 74 with a third and final round 71, even par, to finish in a tie for 32nd-place overall with his 54-hole score of 219, +6.
Having made their intercollegiate debuts at the Marshall Invitational on Sept. 8-9, both Michalak and Kontak will look to shake off the first tournament nerves and improve on their scores this week at the Rees Jones Intercollegiate. Michalak is coming off rounds of 79, 71 and 75 at the Marshall Invitational where he finished in a tie for 64th-place overall with a combined score of 225, +12, while Kontak, who played as an individual at the fall season opener, will look to improve upon his rounds of 75, 79 and 80, as well as his 86th-place showing, from the Marshall Invite.
Cooper, the lone upperclassman, will look to lead this young unit to a top-five finish for the first time this season. The lefty shot a low round 71, even par, at the Marshall Invitational which was sandwiched between rounds of 78 and 76 to place him in a tie for 64th-place overall with a 54-hole combined score of 225, +12.
Each day will have an 8:30 a.m. double tee start on holes number 1 and number 10.
