Davidson Named MAC East Special Teams Player Of The Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio - For the third time in four weeks, a Bowling Green State University player has been named MAC East Special Teams Player of the Week. This week, redshirt freshman punter Joe Davidson was honored. The weekly award is the first of his young career.
Davidson punted a career-high 11 times, averaging 45.1 yards per punt in a loss at Wisconsin. Davidson set a career-high with a 57-yard punt in the game, and also had one downed inside the 20-yard line.
Davidson joins Tyler Tate (Sept. 15) and Ryan Burbrink (Sept. 8) as the other Falcons to win the weekly special teams award. Bowling Green has won the award in each of the last three weeks. The Falcons begin MAC play this weekend, as they travel to UMass for a 3:00 pm kickoff. The game is available nationally on ESPN3.

Offensive Player of the Week:Â Miami WR David Frazier
Miami senior wide receiver David Frazier (Columbia, S.C.) had five catches and a career-high 162 yards receiving as the RedHawks nearly pulled off the upset over in-state rival Cincinnati in a 31-24 loss. The senior added a career-high two touchdowns, his first multi touchdown performance of his career. Frazier opened the game with a 23-yard touchdown grab from Andrew Hendrix and added a 74-yard score in the third quarter, the longest reception of his career.

Defensive Player of the Week:Â Ohio LB Quentin Poling
Ohio redshirt freshman linebacker Quentin Poling (Spencerville, Ohio) led the defense for the Bobcats in a 36-24 win over Idaho with 14 tackles and three interceptions for 77 yards. It was the first time a Bobcat player recorded three interceptions in a game since Tevell Jones did so in 1997 against Bowling Green.Â

Offensive Player of the Week: Â Western Michigan RB Jarvion Franklin
Western Michigan freshman running back Jarvion Franklin (Tinley Park, Ill.) rushed for 168 yards on 30 carries and three touchdowns in a 45-14 win over Murray State. For the third straight game Franklin rushed for three touchdowns and for over a 100 yards and became the first Bronco since Robert Sanford (1997) to run for three 100-yard games as a freshman. He had touchdown runs of 7 yards, 22 yards and 13 yards and now has nine rushing touchdowns on the season, one less than the entire Bronco team had last season.

Defensive Player of the Week:Â Central Michigan LB Justin Cherocci
Central Michigan senior linebacker Justin Cherocci (Rochester Hills, Mich.) had a career-best 18 tackles, including 12 solo tackles, in a 24-10 loss at Kansas. His 18 tackles match the season-best by a MAC player this year. The senior linebacker also had a sack and a forced fumble.

Special Teams Player of the Week:Â Toledo PR/KR Corey Jones
Toledo sophomore kick returner Corey Jones (Pittsburgh, Pa.) had 164 all-purpose yards, including 76 on kickoff returns and 66 on punt returns, in a win over Ball State. He had two punt returns of 35 and 31 yards, and a kickoff return of 28 yards.
