Daufuskie Island, S.C. – For the second straight day, the Bowling Green State University men's golf team had a golfer shoot a low round 72, even par, however, the Falcons struggled overall as a team with a third round combined team score of 314, +26, on the final day of play at the Rees Jones Intercollegiate at the Jones Signature Course at the Haig Point Golf Club in Daufuskie Island, South Carolina.
The Falcons carded rounds of 310, 313 and 314 over the three days of play to finish in 11th-place overall with a team score of 937, +73.
"As a team we did not play well at all for the entire tournament," stated head coach Kevin Farrell. "We had a few good rounds, but have got to find a way to have our entire team put together some solid rounds. Consistency for us has got to improve across the board. We will regroup and come out better prepared to play next week at the Badger Invitational."
Sophomore Jose Narro led the Falcons with a 23rd-place finish, as he turned in rounds of 77, 72 and 79 to finish with a combined 54-hole tournament score of 228, +12. Narro posted a team-best nine birdies over the three rounds of play.
Fellow sophomore Brett Rinker shot a third round 72, even par, his best round of the three day event. Rinker recorded rounds of 79, 80 and 72 to finish in a tie for 36th-place overall with a combined score of 231, +15. He totaled seven birdies and tallied an eagle on hole 18 on Tuesday.
Freshman Cameron Michalak registered rounds of 76, 79 and 79 to finish with a combined tournament score of 234, +18, to place in 43rd overall, while senior Joe Cooper posted a three round score of 244, +28, with rounds of 78, 82 and 84 to finish in 57th-place. Both Michalak and Cooper had five birdies apiece for the event.
Rounding out the Falcon lineup was Mitchell Kontak, as the freshman turned in rounds of 88, 82 and 89 to finish with a score of 259, +43, and in 63rd-place overall.
Co-host Kennesaw State won the team championship with a combined team score of 871, +7, to edge East Carolina who finished in second-place with a team score of 874, +10. Winthrop (887, +23), Charleston Southern (897, +33), UNC-Wilmington (907, +43) and Campbell (907, +43) rounded out the top-five with UNC-Wilmington and Campbell finishing in a tie for fifth-place.
Bowling Green will return to the links in just five days, as the Falcons will compete at the Badger Invitational hosted by the University of Wisconsin at the University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wisconsin on Sept. 28-30.
